Nur das Kielbogenportal des 1945 zerst�rten Collegium maius (Michaelistr. 39) erinnert in den letzten Jahrzehnten an die glanzvollen Zeiten der Erfurter Universit�t. Im Jahre 1392 durch den st�dtischen Rat als f�nfte Universit�t im deutschen Sprachraum er�ffnet, wurde sie schnell zur meistbesuchten in Mitteleuropa, da von Anfang an alle vier Fakult�ten (Theologie, Philosophie, Medizin, Jura) zugelassen waren. Der ber�hmteste Student war Martin Luther. 1816 wurde die Universit�t geschlossen. Eine Neugr�ndung erfolgte 1994. Deren repr�sentativer Mittelpunkt ist das wiederaufgebaute Collegium maius; f�r den wissenschaftlichen Lehrbetrieb wurde im Norden der Stadt ein Campus errichtet.
