Alienation, as a more general philosophical concept, describe the departure of subject from itself and against itself; while estrangement is one of the most important subsequences or phenomenal forms of alienation where people were isolated from each other because of their alienation from their own essence as human being.
Alienation is translated into 异化 as a standard philosophy term although it can also be translated as 疏离 in case it is used to mean one of its concrete forms.
