German term
i.V versus i.A
German to English
Bus/Financial
General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Letter
These are abbreviations coming before signatures of a letter.
From what I have googled i.V (in Vertretung) appears to be pp in English while i.A appears to be an abbreviation for Artvollmacht. Any ideas what the equivalent abbreviation in English would be for i.A? Thanks :-)

in Vollmacht versus im Auftrag (leave both out in English translation)
iV means in Vollmacht, i.A. im Auftrag.
There is no equivalent in English, so you're best just to leave it out. If you put it in, then you should add a translator's note to explain the German system.
Good description here:
Unterschriftenzusatz: i.A.
Unterschriftenzusatz: i.V. (in Vollmacht).
Unterschriftenzusatz: i.V. (in Vollmacht).
Unterschriftenzusatz: ppa. (per procura = durch die Prokura).

for
English does not differentiate between the two. When a person signs on behalf of someone else normally 'for' is used. Leaving these would mean person who is signing is the person who has written the letter

: Sorry, Milinad...these abbreviations do not indicate that a person is signing on behalf of someone else; rather, they indicate what the person is authorized to sign, i.e. which powers he/she has.

: English apparently does not differentiate between the signer's powers, but "for" is most often used to differentiate the signer from the letter writer.
