German term
Technik, die den Benutzer versteht
German to English
Marketing
Advertising / Public Relations
This is the title of a presentation detailing the benefits of a new machine control system. The system "understands" the machine user because it carries out many machine functions automatically and without the need for manual intervention.
My mind refuses to come up with anything creative, so input much appreciated. :-)
Thanks a lot in advance.

systems fully responding to users' needs // systems (virtually) anticipating (all) users' needs
Of these two options, I'd prefer "anticipating" as the activities performed by the systems virtually *eliminate* the need for manual invention. IMHO "user" might also be replaced with "operator". I'm not sure about using "user" [sic!] in the singular or plural ("users'" vs. "[the] user's").
Slightly awkward German, this, which I'd call "bemüht" at best ;-)

Comment: "Wow! Thanks so much for so many excellent suggestions. This one was really tough to grade but in the end I went with Steffen's (added) suggestion. Designed rhymes with mind, Steffen, did you notice? ;-)
Thanks again, all of you. You are great!"

understanding engineering
In the sense of 'engineering that understands you' - that could be a second suggestion :-)

Harald Moelzer (medical-translator)
: I like 'engineering that understands you' - perfectly mirrors the German term

intuitive technology
perhaps going a little further away from the original, but if you wanted to be creative....

Steffen Walter
: Good idea but does not sufficiently capture the "automatic/no manual intervention needed" aspect (IMHO). "Intuitive" could also refer to technology/systems that is/are intuitive to use for the operator.

user-sensitive technology
Or "cognitive technology"
"The use, reach and transformative powers of these cognitive technologies is escalating. New waves of user-sensitive technology may soon bring this ancient process to a climax, as our minds and identities become ever more deeply enmeshed in a non-biological matrix of machines, tools, props, codes and semi-intelligent daily objects."

Steffen Walter
: "User-sensitive" might also be understood as "(accurately) responding to the user's actions" while LittleBalu's context seems to talk about *anticipating* the user's needs and *eliminating* manual intervention as far as practically possible (IMHO).

I see "user-sensitive" as going a few steps beyond "user-friendly". This technology isn't just easy to use, it actually "senses" (yes, anticipates!) the user's needs. Besides, in this context, we need something catchy for a presentation title.

technology that "understands" 'its user
I think simpler is better in this case. The literal translation is fully comprehensible. The quote marks could be omitted, but they do make it clear that this is a sort of joke (or a stretch...). (I would venture to say that no d** computer will ever understand ME.)

As a native english speaker , this seems the most logical. I like to keep things simple.

Susan Welsh
: den Benutzer is in the accusative

Colin Rowe
: Firstly, it is talking about a control system, not a technique; secondly: "den Benutzer", nicht "der Benutzer"

Intelligent Technology
Certainly short and snappy and a common enough collocation in English and the word intelligence obviously implies "understanding".
