open-jaw ticket

This phrase (note: "jaw" without the "s") is a standard term in the travel industry.

Picture, for example, a trip from Paris to Moscow, with a return from Istanbul to Paris, with a ticket purchased for those two portions of the trip but not for the Moscow-to-Istanbul leg.

If drawn on the map, this travel would have a V-shaped pattern, consisting of a line from Paris to Moscow and another line from Istanbol to Paris. Paris is the common point (the "hinge") of the "open jaw."

Belated hopes that this helps,
HC

PS -- "Open return" refers to time, not place. If I fly from San Francisco to London on November 15 with an open return, that means I can fly back whenever I choose to, as opposed to on a specified date.

Sorry I didn\'t see this question until after an answer was already chosen. And \"Istanbul\" (in English) of course contains no \"o\"\'s...
