Zuschuss verrechnen

German to English Bus/Financial Insurance Medical Examinations

From a German life insurance company. The company has requested the applicant to undergo a number of medical tests and this paragraph appears after the list of tests to be carried out by a doctor.

If the person undergoing the tests has to pay the doctor's fees, what does the "Zuschuss verrechnen" mean? That the insurance company will pay EUR X,XX if the insurance is ultimately provided?

Oh well, I'll be able to turn it into off-putting bureaucratic English that will be enough to frighten (some) people;-)
Stefanie Reinhold Apr 14, 2008:
As a native German I am allowed to say: Is this something we Germans would strive for, find desirable? ;-) I love that British effort!
Stephen Gobin (asker) Apr 14, 2008:
Thanks Stefani ;-) I wonder if there's an equivalent in Germany of the "Plain English Campaign" that we have in the UK. This organisation award "crystal clear marks" (it's in the shape of a diamond) to companies that write plainly, i.e. so ALL people can understand things with ease!

offset ... an allowance

allowance for medical expenses is offset against insurance contributions on the account (daher Beitragskonto)
