Russian term
в. зв.
Russian to English
Other
Military / Defense
This abbreviation appears in the following context (a description of the assault on Afghan President Amin's palace). Sakhatov is identified elsewhere as a deputy commander of the "Muslim" battalion (of soldiers of Central Asian origin), so this abbreviation is seemingly unconnected with the word "взвод".
If this were a rank I might guess временное звание, but it's a должность.

I can only guess that in parenthesis "в.зв." replace some real rank of a commander that is unknown for the present.

Alexander Litvinov
: It's known. Captain Mikhail Sakhatov. The rank is missing in this text, although in other citations from Kolesnik it is present. Probably editor's remark.

Comment: "Yes, upon reflection this seems to be the most likely meaning. Curiously, the author entered a parenthetical note elsewhere in the article, adding his initials there."

Salavat is absolutely right. (в. I would also add a question mark.
It's obviously editor's remark showing the abscence of Sakhatov's rank in the text and encouraging someone to do a little research. I decided to post my answer because of the language pair.
