German term

BdV

German to English Tech/Engineering Medical: Pharmaceuticals
A standard operating procedure (SOP) of the Spanish division of a German pharmaceutical company has a number of terms that have not been translated from German. The subject field is drug manufacture.

Possible full terms of the abbreviation are given above.

I'm having trouble with "Método analítico BdV". which is equivalent to "Analytical Method ???"

Thanks for any suggestions

Discussion

Susanne Rindlisbacher Feb 14, 2008:
The only thing that comes to mind is "Blindverfahren" ("blind study") but I would really ask the client.
Barbara Thomas (asker) Feb 14, 2008:
The same abbreviation appears in the sentence "The present document corresponds to tests performed in BdV for release of the bulk material ..."
Susanne Rindlisbacher Feb 14, 2008:
A little more context (whole sentence, sentence before and after) might shed some light.
Susanne Rindlisbacher Feb 14, 2008:
As there is no well known "BdV-method" in German, this might be a company internal abbreviation and I would ask the client instead of guessing.
Barbara Thomas (asker) Feb 14, 2008:
The question is about BdV, which may or may not stand for the terms that come after the abbreviation.
The document is an SOP (formal instructions for how to execute a procedure). The procedure in question is testing raw materials before using them to manufacture drugs.
Susanne Rindlisbacher Feb 14, 2008:
What sort of device is this about? Something to do with blood?
Kim Metzger Feb 14, 2008:
But do you need a translation of "Método analítico BdV" or Bund der Versicherten or Bund der Vertriebenen? I'm totally confused.
Barbara Thomas (asker) Feb 14, 2008:
German terms within Spanish document Kim, BdV is definitely not Spanish and my text, obviously a German to Spanish translation) contains a number of words that were left in German.
Kim Metzger Feb 14, 2008:
"I'm having trouble with "Método analítico BdV" - then shouldn't this be a Spanish to English question?

Proposed translations

Bundesverband Deutscher Vertriebsfirmen

Could be... but I have no idea if this fits the context.

In any case, "Bund der Vertriebenen" seems unlikely in the extreme.

Yes, my suggestion would be BDV, so it doesn't really fit.
Note from asker:
Wouldn't the abbreviation be BDV, all capital letters?

See http://www.rki.de/nn_197448/DE/Content/Forsch/Einstellung__P... - is your pharma co. active in this field by any chance?

"Bund der Versicherten" and "Bund der Vertriebenen" do not make sense at all here.
Note from asker:
Thank you. As it turns out, the abbreviation is for the name of a laboratory.

German term (edited): BdV = Bd. V

Vol V

I would think there is no way around asking the client.

Thank you. As it turns out, the abbreviation is for the name of a laboratory.
