Gewicht

is I think what the German term would be - I'm not sure that "thickness" is used over here any longer. Come to that, I'd be a little surprised if "calliper" is still common currency in the USA, but you never know...

"Calliper", according to Merriam-Webster, is indeed the thickness of a stock (of paper), and is equal to a thickness of one-thousandth of an inch.
