I had asked this question already and I explained it was for a Book Title. I got some pretty good answers, but I'm still not at ease. What I need to explain is that in this case the word reparación was used by the author with the meaning of "fixing" the Catholic Church as an institution. Obviously Repair is a weird choice for an institution but fixing is also weird. You can fix a chair or a building but I don't know if it can apply to an institution and much less for a title. Please send me more ideas with this explanation in mind. Again this refers to fixing somethign that is not working.

Repairing the Catholic Church
This would clearly indicate that it had been broken or damaged and includes the ambiguity of the original. I believe that irony is intended. There are several ironic references in the original that need to be reflected: The Catholic Church's act of reparation for damage done (redress, making amends), church repairs (a common reason for asking the congregation for financial support) and repairing the institution itself. 'Repairing the Catholic Church' would also work. Personally, I would base my choice on the overall tone of the work in question.

Comment: "Thank you so much for your comments. You are correct, the irony in the title is intended in Spanish also. So I left it as close to the original as I could. "

Fixing the Catholic Church
This is certainly a title you would expect to see for, say, a magazine article about how the church (as an institution) is falling apart. It's a bit tongue-in-cheek, but so is the Spanish.

You\'ve already chosen your answer, but there was just an article about this in the NY Times, and they indeed said Fixing the Church.

Restoring the Catholic Church
How about "restoring" the Church? Another possibility would be "reforming" but that´s too reminiscent of other "reforms"! :-)

Restoring
It could work alright since it tends to be applied to buildings and the origins of the Catholic Church is that "first stone" Peter was supposed to be.
I thought about "Mending", but I guess you'd find this as problematic as "Fixing". "Reforming" might be a bit to far from the original.

Reforming the Catholic Church
Restoring, fixing as you've wisely mentioned is more on to things (the building itself and not the body, spiritual aspect) rather than beliefs, dogmas or principles, which the Catholic Church is now confronting to make changes due to scandals of some priests. "Reform" as defined by Webster´s dictionary is: "to put an end to (an evil) by enforcing or introducing a better method or course of action" or "to put or change into an improved form or condition". I think it's a better choice.
