I would translate salvapatrias as "false patriot".
patricia scott Mar 30, 2007:
In line with Aceavila's comment, there is an expression "erigirse en salvador de la patria" which is more or less the same thing.
Noni Gilbert Riley Mar 30, 2007:
that can be the sense here. See Patricia below which seems to fit neatly.
Noni Gilbert Riley Mar 30, 2007:
In Italian it seems to mean someone who sets themselves up as the "saviour of the human race", which is the sense that comes out in some of the goodle hits in Spanish too. A kind of self-style Cid Campeador/knight in shining armour. But I don´t think ...

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "It seems that this is the term that gets the closest to the original idea. Many thanks!!"

Take all the credit for

in italian it is indeed "saviour of the nation", in French it could be" le sauveur de la patrie". But in English I prefer "we are not going to take all the credit for...".
Peer comment(s):

agree Noni Gilbert Riley : Yes, another good option.// Hey, you should hang around the Span-Eng translators a bit more. They´re a great bunch and give credit where credit´s due!!//Outsourcers take note.

Thanks. People want me only for translations into Hebrew. Most of my Kudoz points are Italian > English, followed by Spanish >English. French> English comes next and Hebrew > English is last (French is my second mother tongue and Hebrew is the first!!).
agree patricia scott : I like this too.I agree with Aceavila.Thanks
