diversion tunnel/channel

Excavated (built) to re-direct the waters (river) between two basins, to allow construction of the dam. Once the dam is built (the embankment), the channel is shut or cancelled to flood the upper basin. The used name depends on the country and type of dam.

agree Grace Gagnet : Yes--you just have to figure out whether it's a tunnel or a channel.

Thanks. The original mentions a tunnel, so I'd go with that. Still I had to mention channel because it's a more std design.

May be (?) Because "transvasar" significa sth else:

(De trans-, de una parte a otra, y vaso).
1. tr. Pasar un líquido de un recipiente a otro.

So what do you think?

Chaca las referencias. Saludos !
agree Noni Gilbert Riley : This is indeed the right word, viz the Ebro (hot potato!): "The Ebro river transfer project" at ecoman.dcea.fct.unl.pt/projects/advisor/publications/SevilleADVISOR3.pdf - you can also talk about diverting the river, hence diversion.
