Discussion

writeaway Feb 5, 2007:
and I should learn how to type. Post even more questions (not most)
writeaway Feb 5, 2007:
http://www.proz.com/kudoz/1753314 you should learn to be truthful before you most even more questions.
writeaway Feb 5, 2007:
if this is Stendahl, why has one of your alter-egos 'thilda' tried to ask yet another question for your detective story assignment?
sylvainpap (asker) Feb 4, 2007:
Ok , thank you Tony M for these directions
writeaway Feb 4, 2007:
it's on the 'preview' page at the bottom under 'special options': I am not a professional translator.
This is a "not for points" question; you will still need to select the best answer but you will be neither asked nor able to award points.
The content of this question may be perceived as offensive by others
This question was taken from a translation test (or from homework)
Tony M Feb 4, 2007:
And of course, it's also worth mentioning it in the "context" box, since it may have an impact on the style of the translation, etc.
Tony M Feb 4, 2007:
This is then flagged to potential Answerers, who can thus refrain from answering if they don't approve.
Tony M Feb 4, 2007:
hi Sylvain! When you are preparing your question, there is a box you can check (quite far down the page) to indicate that the question relates to either homework or a translation test — or in your case, an assignment!
writeaway Feb 4, 2007:
when you are preparing the question for posting, isn't there a box to tick which will mark the question as homework? (there's another option to mark the text as possibly offensive). at the bottom I think-will take a look.
sylvainpap (asker) Feb 4, 2007:
I am a third year student in English. So it's for a French to English translation I had to prepare , but where can I mention that ?
writeaway Feb 4, 2007:
if these questions are related to schoolwork assignments, then you should tick the box marking them as 'homework'
sylvainpap (asker) Feb 4, 2007:
oh no I have ended the detective story . Besides it xas not a line by line translation but just phrases from different pages and even diferent chapters
writeaway Feb 4, 2007:
Stendhal or a continuation of your detective story?

Proposed translations

He was not one to take the initiative.

If it is the continuation of the detective novel, you could use "He was not the sort to make the first move."
