أو السوق لليمون
Akerlof's paper uses the market for used cars as an example of the problem of quality uncertainty. There are good used cars and defective used cars ("lemons"). The buyer of a car does not know beforehand whether it is a good car or a lemon. So the buyer's best guess for a given car is that the car is of average quality; accordingly, he/she will be willing to pay for it only the price of car of known average quality.

لأن السيارات المستعملة (وحالتها دون المستوى) تطغى غلى السوق وتضلل المشترين وتجعل السيارات الأحسن حالا أو الجديدة سواء بها، وعليه يكون الشاري مستعد لدفع المال في كلا السيارتين (الجيدة وما دون المستوى) ويعاملهم نفس المعاملة وبالتالي تكون السيارة "الليمونة" هي الرابحة في هذا السوق لأنها تتساوى بقيمة السيارة متوسطة الجودة في السعر.

Why? What is your point? As long as there is a simile you can do it, otherwise how you will transfer the word 'lemon' when the author likens a bad car to it?!

This would distinguish it from the Sweet Lemons found in many Arab countries. ليم is used in Yemen and in the Gulf, and is probably a transliteration of lime or vice versa.
