Bei solchen "Zwickmühlen" sagte mein Lehrer immer: "Geh' von dir selbst aus- was du verstehst/weißt, verstehen/wissen auch andere" - aber im Zweifelsfall eben ersetzen durch "Konsumverein" oder eventuell auch "Verbraucherring"...

nicht Mitglieder des Konsumvereins {or whatever you are calling co-op}

You had to join the co-op to be a member and enjoy the benfits. If you did not join, you were non-co-op.

agree Anne Schulz : "...waren weder [Co-op]-Mitglieder noch katholisch" -- wenn ein neutralerer Tenor gewünscht ist.
