English Medical Medical: Health Care Pregnancy
In a manual on pregnancy this term appears and although it does have hits on Google I just don't like the sound of it.

Is it the correct term to describe a woman who's very recently given birth?

I'm looking for a term that reads "pregnant and ****** woman" to describe women who are pregnant now and women who have just had a baby.

agree David Moore (X) : Yes; as the "General Lying-in Hospital" in London, when mothers were kept in hostital for up to a fortnight after giving birth, as I understand.

lying in means the end stage of pregnancy... labor to birth...

"pregnant women and new mothers" is what you are looking for.
