Ursprung des Ausdrucks: Bei einem Absturz wird (eine entsprechende Einstellung vorausgesetzt) der Inhalt des Speichers (memory core) in eine Datei geschrieben (dumped).

Bei SAP wird auch "Dump" im Dts gesagt.
Das System/Programm bricht wegen eines Fehlers ab und schreibt den Fehler in das Core Memory.

This is another way of saying that they have created a binary file containing ALL the 1s and 0s of main memory. Then, if you are REAL industrious (not to mention nerdy to the max!) you can look through this file and determine what caused the computer to stop operating so disasterously.

: I did that ages ago, JC, and I could probably still read a S/360 dump. Young people nowadays have the easy life. Programs will analyze the dumps for them. By the way, the source doesn't really justify your "Datei" imho.

: Ja, das ist die wörtliche Bedeutung; zumeist (so auch hier) wird der Ausdruck jedoch metaphorisch für einen Crash verwendet (was im Deutschen nicht funktioniert).

: Ich glaube, das ist zu wenig. Die Implementation stürzt ab, wenn die Windows 2000-basierten Clients etwas senden.
