lathe chuck
Text about a lathe chuck.
I somehow can't find a suitable way of phrasing "radial ganz innen" in the sentences below. The more I try, the worse it gets!
Im Ausgangszustand und im Leerlaufzustand des Spannfutters stehen die Grundbacken radial ganz innen
Das Spannfutter muss entlüftet sein, die Spannbacken stehen radial ganz innen
TIA

fully retracted
Comes to my mind and explains what is meant (IMO the radial is superfluous, as there is probably no alternative to a radial arrangement for the chuck jaws).

I read "Ausgangszustand / Leerlaufzustand" to mean a starting / neutral state, i.e. the chucks are in the (extreme) opposite position to the clamping state. This works equally well for internal/external chuicks.
"The universal chuck usually has three jaws which are simultaneously and radially advanced to, or retracted from, the workpiece."

: geometrically ambiguous: depending on the clamping configuration this could also mean fully outwards (or even fully backwards)

Darin Fitzpatrick
: "retracted" implies all the way back, which is generally the opposite of what is meant here.
