When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Verkleidung / Sockelsims

Hallo Sam,

Je nach Kontext hat base moulding unterschiedliche Bedeutungen. In Deinem Kontext würde ich Verkleidung oder Sockelsims (Ref. Ernst) annehmen.

Viele Grüße
Claudia

agree Dietrich Herrmann, MD, PhD, MBA : Prima! In dem Fall deckt Verkleidung so ziemlich alle Eventualitäten ab.

agree Ulrike Lieder (X) : Or perhaps: "Abdeckleiste für den Antennensockel" ?

neutral HMN.Berlin (X) : Sockelsims only civil engineering

Fussleiste

The base moulding in a typical US room is the same as a baseboard. Moulding is Profil in German, but base moulding would just be translated a Fussleiste (with the s-Zed).
Peer comment(s):

disagree Dietrich Herrmann, MD, PhD, MBA : What about Deckenleiste - that's still a molding

disagree Ulrike Lieder (X) : Fußleiste pertains to a room - this is an antenna

Ever heard of an antenna being installed in a room?

base molding

I guess it's a typo, should read base molding and has nothing to do with a fungus.
Molding is Randleiste - and without more context there is nothing better I can come up with.
Peer comment(s):

agree Kim Metzger : US - molding, UK - moulding

neutral HMN.Berlin (X) : molding=moulding

Formteil

The meaning of moulding is Formteil, or Pressteil or Formgussteil meaning a piece coming from a mould. To translate "base" I would rather leave up to you and the context. I could come up with
"Basisformteil", "Fussformteil" or even only saying
"Fussteil". It realy depends on the context.
Peer comment(s):

agree yeswhere : Your further context will confirm this, but as weatherseal is mentioned, it would appear that an exterior antenna is being mounted into a mo(u)lded base fitting allowing the antenna cable to passing through to the interior without leaks.
