Handy is the popular term while "digitales Mobiltelefon" is an industry term. See quote below from a web page entitled

Eva is absolutely right and so is Taunis. Sometimes "Handy" might not be fine enough, or sound too "foreign". Many Germans think "Handy" is already the English name for "Mobiltelefon" but that is wrong. "Handy" is pure German. The word came from English but does not have the meaning of "Mobiltelefon" in English.

If your translation is informal "Handy" is fine, but if it is technical, "Mobiltelefon" might be better.

Nokia uses the word "Mobiltelefon" twice and "Handy" once in this paragraph at this site:

All mobile telephones are cellular because the cell is just the area around a transmitter antenna that can be reached by that antenna. If you are not in a cell, then your "Handy / Mobiltelefon" doesn't work.

The "digitel" part is important because there are still some analog cellular networks in the world.
