German term

Werkrealschule

German to English Social Sciences Education / Pedagogy
Can anyone help with this one, it appears to be a special type of vocational secondary modern school in Baden Württemberg. I have translated it as "crafts-oriented secondary modern school" but that is a guess.

secondary technical school

I’m assuming you want this in terms that will mean something to a UK reader. If it is for the US then go with Kim’s suggestion.
I am not aware of any state secondary schools in the UK described as ‘craft schools’ or ‘craft–oriented schools’ but there is a long tradition of designating schools as ‘technical’ and this is the standard way of translating ‘Realschule’. As there is no hint of ‘Beruf’ in the title it is probably best to avoid ‘vocational’. It is also advisable to avoid ‘intermediate’ as this is usually taken to refer to age range (i.e. 11 – 14) rather than ability range. Avoid ‘secondary modern’ as this term is certainly passé.

I can't give you the link to this info at the moment. The site is screwy.

Acquisition of the 'Mittlere Reife'
*
Three paths lead to the 'Mittlere
Reife':
1. The direct path via attending
the voluntary 10th year at the
'Hauptschule', the so-called
'Werkrealschule', which is offered
at central 'Hauptschule' locations.
Whoever passes the final exami-
nation at the end of the 10th
school year has an intermediate
certificate of education (‘Mittle-
rer Bildungsabschluss’) in his/her
pocket. This certificate is equal in
value to the 'Mittlere Reife' at
the 'Realschule' and is accepted
in the whole of Germany.
intermediate secondary certificate

General education school leaving certificate obtained on completion of grade 10 at -> Realschulen or, under certain circumstances, at other lower secondary level school types.

technical institute

If this is for a US audience the term technical institute would be most easily understood, I think. My kids' high school offers a seperate branch of classes under that title.
