Italian term

stemma accartocciato

Italian to English Art/Literary Architecture description of stone coat of arms
The *stemma accartocciato* should date to the 16th century.

"Uno stemma *accartocciato* di questa famiglia, simile a quello Ricasoli su palazzo Mondragone a Firenze, di carattere tardo-manieristico...."

What is the English word for *accartocciato* here?
Technical jargon is fine, text for experts.

Thanks
luisa

(Reanissance) shield

(Renaissance) shield

Da questo glossario multilingue:
http://www.heraldica.org/shell/printglo.pl

confermato da questa descrizione:

The central element of the coat-of-arms is the shield, which may take various forms from the elongated tapering kite (also called Norman) shield to the pointed triangular heater or the rectangular, square banner shield. It may take the shape of a horse's head or a diamond (lozenge), it can be pierced flanchwise with a pointed base (often referred to as Renaissance shield), whereas the one named buckler is oval or circular (round).

coat of arms with scrolled edges

there may be a different term, but I think it refers to the way the edges are curled over - compare the picture of the Ricasoli coat of arms on the link page:
