XXXX's Stock Management Component can be used to create applications that support basic functions involved in the management of counter positions throughout the post office. Stock management refers to the management of stock units. A stock unit would typically represent the container that a counter clerk uses to hold the stock and cash for which he is responsible. The Stock Management Component contains a number of functions that provide facilities for remittance, stock transfer, and stock-unit balancing.


Stock Remittance

Stock management applications need to support the receipt of stock into the post office from an outside source and the dispatch of unwanted stock or excess cash back to the appropriate source (typically a bank or the central stock unit where the stock originated).

Stock Transfer

Stock management applications need to support the movement of stock between stock units within a post office. Because individual counter clerks are accountable for stock units and the stock held within them, stock cannot be directly transferred from one counter clerk ’s stock unit to another counter clerk’s stock unit. Stock is transferred into a pending state, allowing both counter clerks to view and approve the stock that is either being transferred out or transferred in. The items in the pending state are marked with the name of the target stock unit to ensure that they can only be transferred into the specified stock unit.

Administrators can transfer stock into a stock unit that is not a user ’s default stock unit, to allow stock to be transferred into a non-counter clerk stock unit, such as a safe.

The application can produce an on-screen list of any outstanding stock transfers for the entire post office, where the stock has been transferred out but has never been transferred in. This list would be used to confirm that all transfers are complete, prior to stock-unit balancing at the end of an accounting period.

Stock Balance

Stock management applications need to be able to reconcile differences in the physical stock held in a stock unit and the stock levels in the system. When there is a discrepancy, the counter clerk is able to correct the stock-unit balance with the system by automatically creating adjustment transactions.
