s'equiper in the sense of being organized with some kind of information gathering/organizing source so you don't have to figure out the pricing all the time..In colloquial French, I can see where être equipé can mean have the means/organization of getting pricing information without spending a lot of time to do so...
in English, we can say:
constant price watching takes a lot of time unless you are equipped to do so...

Yes, if refers to a verb in English, however here came from "la veille", which is of course a noun. That's the trouble with only translating parts of sentences... , Yours,
