Aber die Geschichten wollen doch mehr sein als sogenannte "Denkanstöße." Die Dichter wollen immer nur Denkanstöße geben, aber irgendwann muss ja auch jemand zu denken beginnen. I tried: "I want the stories to do more than just cause readers to put on their thinking caps." That might work for the first sentence, but I'd hate to repeat that in the sentence about writers in general.

for "Denkanstoss," even though I love
the expression "food for thought."
