M. LAURENT AUBLIN, AMBASSADOR OF FRANCE TO THAILAND
For the third consecutive year, ‘La Fête’ will pitch its tent in Bangkok. During three weeks, we will celebrate, together with a large Thai and international public, the best artistic creations that France and Thailand have to offer.
This year, ‘La Fête’ will honor His Majesty the King of Thailand on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of his accession to the throne; in preview of the festival itself, on June 14th, a concert will bring together the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, directed by Maestro Hikotaro Yazaki, with the French pianist Anne Queffélec.
‘La Fête’ remains faithful to its origins by promoting diversity and innovation: its main reason for existing is to present the widest variety of artistic expressions as possible, from the most traditional to the more innovative, with the only rule being the search of excellence. In 2006, fashion is to receive a place of honor for the very first time, opening ‘La Fête’ at Siam Paragon on June 22 with a fashion show performance entitled ‘Paris-Bangkok’, where the glamor of Parisian Couture will be presented side-by-side with the new ‘Bangkok Fashion City’ scene. As the main theme of the festival, fashion will also be presented during the third biennial of the ‘Month of Photography’, with an exhibition by the French National Fund for Contemporary Art on ‘The Theater of Fashion’.
‘La Fête’ also takes us to other worlds with three exclusive productions concerning the imaginary, gesture and performance; ‘Pitchet Klunchun and Myself’ or the playful and theatrical meeting of two geniuses of dance, Company 111 with ‘Plan B’, a new circus show that poetically defies the laws of gravity, and finally ‘Solo - the Doubt Within Me’ by the brilliant choreographer-dancer Philippe Decouflé, whose successful ‘Tricodex’ during ‘La Fête’ 2005 left a lasting impression and unforgettable memories. The great successes of ‘La Fête’ 2005 will also be returning, with new works and performers: the Festival of Chamber Music with its young geniuses of classical music, the Electronic Music Festival with the best French DJs in the world today, the French Film Festival and the ‘Music Festival’, during which great French and Thai rock and pop artists will share the stage in 2006 with notable amateur groups. This year, jazz and theater are invited for the first time to ‘La Fête’, which has the pleasure to welcome the talented pianist Bojan Z during his Asian Tour, and the theatrical ‘Troupe des Deux Mondes’ who will perform 2 black humor plays for the enjoyment of the French-speaking public.
Since 2004, ‘La Fête’ is an example of co-operation between French and Thai partners, private and public, artistic and technical. This partnership is reinforced every year, as seen with the increased participation of the municipality of Bangkok during ‘La Fête’ 2006.
This Franco-Thai partnership, at the heart of the ‘La Fête’ project, is also found in its financing, receiving a large part from Thai and French private patrons. I wish to express all my thanks, first of all, to our ‘Platinum Sponsors’, (...), to our official airline partner ‘(...)’, to our ‘Golden Sponsors’, (...) who chose to support our Festival of Chamber Music this year, to our ‘Silver Sponsors’ (...), as well as to all the friends of ‘La Fête’; (...)
‘La Fête’ could not exist without their faithful and generous support. In this respect, they deserve our thanks, as well as that of the public, who are more numerous each year.
‘La Fête’ also has important and essential support from its media partners, to whom I would like to also extend my warmest appreciation: (...)
And now, on with ‘La Fête’!

LE « IN »
LE « OFF »
Translation - English MONTH OF PHOTOGRAPHY
THIRD BIENNALE OF THE MONTH OF PHOTOGRAPHY IN BANGKOK
Truly a festival within the festival, this year’s Month of Photography in Bangkok promises to be impressive as seen through its ambitious programming, the breadth of its theme, as well as its expansive geographic coverage.
Thanks to the growing interest of the Thai audience in photography, and the success of the two previous festivals, the program of the third biennale of the Month of Photography in Bangkok will be even more substantial during ‘La Fête’ 2006 as it once again makes its home in major venues around the city of Bangkok.
We can thus say that it has gained the symbolic status as the ‘little Asiatic sister’ of the revered Month of Photography in Paris.
BACKGROUND
Originally launched in 1980 by the artistic director of the ‘Maison de la Photographie’ (House of Photography) in Paris, Mr. Jean-Luc Moterosso, this French event has since become an international happening. Its third occurrence in Bangkok is proof of the interest and close relations that exist between France and Thailand in the artistic domain.
THE « IN»
With the desire to participate in Thailand’s increasing role in fashion and its objective to make Bangkok the regional capitol for this industry, the general curator of the Month of Photography, Mr. Ark Fongsmut, together with the French Embassy in Thailand and the Alliance Française of Bangkok, have decided to give a place honor to fashion photographers during this year’s exhibition.
The main event of this year’s Month of Photography is ‘The Theatre of Fashion’ show, presented at the prestigious Queen’s Gallery. Originating from the collection of the French Ministry of Culture and Communication’s National Fund for Contemporary Art in Paris, whose French curator is Mrs. Agnes de Gouvion Saint-Cyr, the exhibition includes nearly one hundred photographic works from internationally recognized fashion photographers, including; Sarah Moon, Deborah Turbeville, Gerard Uferas, Francoise Huguier, Franck Perrin…
Mirroring this event, some of Thailand’s best fashion photographers, such as Punsiri Siriwetchapun, Sakchai Guy, Nat Prakobsantisuk, Chutharut Pornmuneesoontorn, Nat Prakobsantisuk and Nopadon Chotasiri will exhibit their work during a collective exhibition at the 100 Tonson Gallery.
The Month of Photography is also other styles, other themes and other points of view.
With the desire of bringing art in general, and this Month of Photography in particular, to the widest audience possible, the ironic and candid Thai photographer Manit Sriwanichapoom will present an outdoor exhibition ‘Pink Man in Wonderland’ in illuminated boxes located at the National Stadium BTS station.
In line with this same philosophy and contributing to this year’s innovations, the Urban Festival of Photography will take place along lively Phra Arthit road at approximately ten bars and restaurants displaying their chosen selection from among the works of 15 Thai photographers. Hopefully this initiative will develop and grow in future festivals.
Following his internship at Cite Siam in 2004, French photographer Pascal Monteil will be showing at the Bangkok University Gallery. His works are exceptional, not only due to the originality of their structure, but by the extreme uniqueness of the techniques that he uses.
Two great travellers exhibit their latest creations: Jérôme Ming at Numthong Gallery and Herve Robillard at Patravadi Gallery.
THE « OFF »
Created as a dynamic alternative to encourage initiatives related to this sector of activity and concentrate them during the life of a festival so that they might be as visible as possible, satellite projects will evolve around this year’s Month of Photography. It is hoped that this part of the festival will continue to develop in coming years.
The exhibitions of Kornkrit at Chulalongkorn Art Centre and Nopadaol Kaosam-Ang at About Studio - About Café are the main events of this ‘off’ festival. In addition, Natnalin Magazine will be hosting a virtual exhibition.
Faithful to its origins, the Month of Photography in Bangkok continues to promote increasingly varied and closer artistic collaboration between French and Thai artists.

Experience
Years of experience: 34. Registered at ProZ.com: Jan 2010.
From a European family, Jeremy Kempler-Johanson (JJ) was born in New York City and grew up in Switzerland under the Asian influence of a surrogate Chinese-Filipino family. While residing between Lausanne, New York, Monte Carlo, Manila and the Caribbean, he continued to travel extensively. He then moved to Paris, France and on to Bangkok, Thailand where he is currently a resident.
Canadian Governor General Adrienne Clarkson referred to him as one of the world’s first Global Citizens; "...his extensive knowledge of North-American and French civilizations ensured the efficient promotion towards economic cooperation between France and Canada. His marketing and public relations experience, as well as his ‘savoir-faire’ and high level of competency have made him invaluable to fulfilling our mission.”
JJ was then called upon to help the French Government with the 1992 Albertville Special Olympics by their president, Andre Auberger; "We were delighted with JJ’s collaboration towards the recording of the presentation film for the Albertville 1992 Special Olympics...we were very impressed by his talent as the film was recorded in record time."
Corporate giants including Sony & IBM have also trusted JJ’s marketing/MC/presentation skills to find innovative ways to transmit their messages to various target audiences. Tad Otsuki - Director of Sony’s D21 Laboratory praised his skills, as did Sony's Public Relations Director Gene Huh; "Not only was JJ a good presenter during the event but he was also good company, making us laugh and relax during break time. Everyone appreciated his enthusiasm and language skills and could not stop praising him."
JJ brought this experience to Bangkok nine years ago working as a Journalist/MC and consultant. In addition to appearing on Thai TV UBC 36 in his show 'Thai Wai's', Thai TV Channel 5 and Thai TV Channel 11, he is currently a columnist/journalist for many local publications (Prestige – 2Magazine…), Honorary Advisor to the Queen Sirikit Breast Cancer Centre, and has also conceived and participated in many private and Thai government projects such as the TAT Long-Stay Ambassador Program, the Bangkok Government’s video presentation, the Thai Ministry of Culture’s French Festival presentation, as well as participating in the French Government’s Thailand-based ‘La Fete’.
JJ's journalistic work over the past decade examines the global human condition within current economic contexts to find a 'true' path to happiness in modern times. After having conducted several hundred interviews, some with many of the world's most prominent citizens, a surprising blueprint is beginning to emerge furnishing answers that the world is looking for.
