I have made the exact same experience and it is frustrating, however, most of my long term clients have learned to trust the quality of my translations by now. I always explain stylistic changes made by the proofreader and tell the client they are unnecessary. A lot of times the reviewer seems to review a language that isn't even their native tongue, so it seems to me they are worsening the quality of the translation, instead of improving on it.
