What a beautifully written article! I haven't yet come across obviously malicious proofreading myself, but I don't doubt that it happens, and I'll be keeping an eye out for it. I feel that your nine numbered points sum up the art of proofreading perfectly, though. It's always satisfying to see one's own opinions neatly expressed by someone else.
