Powwow: Reading - United Kingdom

Is anything happening? | May 24, 2006 |
If Nicole isn't the organiser, who is?
I live in Devon, so I can't very well do anything about it, but it would be nice if someone would.
Suggestions? | May 24, 2006 |
Hi Jack,
In my Proz.com inexperience I once clicked on a link once that said something along the lines of 'suggest a location for a future Powwow', and suddenly Reading appeared in the list with me as the organizer.
Does anyone have any suggestions where to meet up? I guess somewhere on the Riverside. I think lunch time would be prefereable for everyone from the comments I've seen.
Meeting suggestion | May 26, 2006 |
There is a restaurant and bar called "the Bel and Dragon" (address: Gas Works Road, RG1 3EQ, Tel: 0118 9515790). It is on the Riverside, not too close to the busy shopping area and it has got a nice outside area in case the weather is good. Follow signs to Blakes' Lock to get there I believe...
another suggestion | May 26, 2006 |
24th June is a Sat, so not really necessarily a "lunch break", I reckon. On the other hand, it might be nicer to meet during the day if the weather is good. Haven't been to "Bell&Dragon", so would be up for trying out that one.
If we were to meet in the evening, however, maybe we could try the thai restaurant on the corner of Friar St/West St in the town centre - haven't been there myself yet but it's supposed to be good.

Lunchtime would work better for me if that suits others. I haven't been to Bel & Dragon either, so that would be fine.
I won't be able to make it if it is on the 24th June as I will be away that weekend. During the week would be best for me, lunchtime or evening.
I haven't tried the Bel and Dragon (would be happy to try it though). There is also a good Thai restaurant near the station that I have been to a few times (not sure if that's the one KiSTranslations means).

This gets the thumbs up from friends in Reading for a lunchtime meeting, but they suggest booking. Maybe Nicole can give them a ring?

The Bel & Dragon it is: I have booked a table for us on 24th from 12.30pm onwards. (It's booked in my name, Adams).
If you want to take a sneak preview at the menu or the location, their website is http://www.thebelatreading.com/

Well done, Nicole. Looks like a good venue. I wonder what it is like for parking though. See you there next Saturday.

See you there - thanks for booking it!
Maps show a public car park off The Forbury (a road running east from the southern end of Reading Bridge, and on past Reading Gaol).
The restaurant also has a small car park.

Getting there | Jun 23, 2006 |
I gather from the map attached to the site and the instructions, it is not possible getting there in straight line from the south-east (A329M), because of the one way traffic. You have to go the round way: west on A4 to join the traffic from junction 11 (M4) and then east again. Could anyone with the local knowledge confirm the above, pls.
Meeting everyone | Jun 24, 2006 |
Just a quick note to say it was good to catch up with eveyone today in beautiful weather at a great venue - look forward to meeting you again some time! Neil

Yes, there were only six of us but we had a very enjoyable time. Thanks to Beth for suggesting the Bel & Dragon and to Nicole for booking us in there. It was an excellent venue.
