I'm looking to purchase a good Italian>English legal dictionary and would like some recommendations. Any other recommendations for Italian>English business, technical or general dictionaries also appreciated.

I had meant specifically print dictionaries, but any online dictionary recommendations appreciated as well. | | | The best one (I think so) | Mar 6, 2004 |
Francesco de Franchis

Giuffrè editore (Milan)
Vol. II - Italian > English (1996)

P.S. Italian > English Business:

I totally agree with Victorhugo. De Franchis is the very best legal dictionary. Codeluppi is excellent for business/finance and also includes many legal terms.
Both are well worth the investment.

monolingual, and nowhere near as complete as DeFranchis, but sometimes a useful starting point.
I also have De Franchis, and while I agree that it's generally very good, it's worth pointing out that it's not actually aimed at translators, but at comparing and contrasting the Italian legal system with the UK and US systems. This means that on occasion (it's happened to me several times) you'll look up a term only to be told categorically "there is no equivalent in the UK/US system" - not very helpful when you need to translate the damned thing! ... If anyone knows of any decent legal dictionaries specifically designed for translators, I'd be interested in hearing about them. ▲ Collapse

One of the older books I have (1985) is Zanichelli West's Law and Commercial Dictionary.
Not only does this 1840+ page book contain 17,000 English to Italian entries (with a 12,000-term index to look up terms from Italian > English), but it also includes the French, Spanish and German translations as well as glossaries of English, German, French and Italian legal abbreviations.
Does anyone know if this book has been updated/reprinted?
