身体是革命的本钱, 在大陆已经成了口头禅。我老妈一见我很努力，就会说“不要那么辛苦，身体是革命的本钱。”看来，文化大革命对时代和个人的人生都已经打下了深深的烙印。

原本这么熟悉的词，很久没听到，反而不明白究竟是什么意思了。竟然要为“革命”查词典。（这儿已经很晚了,上论坛一看还是要发个言。）
一查，首先查到的：
①“革”就是“去毛加工的兽皮”
② 然后是“革除”=开除、铲除，撤职...
③ 接下去是十七、八个有关“革命..”的词条: 有..家的、有..队伍的、有....主义的还有..事业;etc., etc.

其实人的意志可以很坚强，但肉体都是很脆弱的。看起来很健康的身体，一不小心就会病，这时候没人来革你也够你受的了。
生命脆弱，要好好“呵护”才是。 很感谢建军开这帖的初衷。

翻译们为的是什么呢？如果把翻译当作“革命”，那还不如找个别的工作，翻译真的很辛苦。 如果是为了赚钱，还不如去捡。

我想翻译不是来革命的而是来救命的。 不过先救自己好象比较合乎逻辑，然后再试图解放全人类。

非也非也，“命”是指“天命”，“革”就是“变”，革命者，天命改变也。所以，革命的本义是改朝换代，也可指时代的改变。著名的例子有“殷周革命”“大周革命，万物惟新（狄仁杰语）”。
revolution的含义之一是：a time when people change a ruler or political system by using force or violence. 这个词义，译为革命并无不妥。
BTW，“身体是革命的本钱”的确是句口头禅，完全没有政治含义，一般人都把“革命”直接理解为“事业、工作、以及一切需要耗费精力的事”。现在几乎没人还把政治意义上的“革命”当回事，甚至可以说，“In Money We Trust”才是当前的主流思想。

Another example this reminds me of is when people refer to real bad people as "gentlemen". You can hear it on TV quite often when people talk to or talk about criminals. I guess they use it to be polite or for lack of a better word. That usually gives me a cringe.
