Dear colleagues,

I was contacted by an American (USA) agency based in Utah. They have a BB rating of 4.3.

They accepted my rates and everything, and I only needed to register in their platform in order to start collaborating with them, which I did. What was my surprise when I noticed that in one of the chapters of their platform I could not only see a list of all the translators in their database, but also these translators' details, like their user names, language pairs, location, expertise, number of projects completed, rates, links to ProZ.com profiles, etc., etc. More specifically, there were quite a few Bulgarian translators, and I really doubt it that all of them are aware that their data has been made publicly available there.

While some of this personal data might be publicly available, I didn't authorise them to disclose any part of it to any third parties whatsoever without my written explicit consent. I can provide you with sample screenshots.

Be very careful what information do you disclose, to whom and what this party discloses about you, to whom and why.

This deserves a ticket and some reaction from Proz Mar 14

Very weird.

Usually agencies are not interested in sharing their assets.

Obviously, you are correct about limited public data and your concurrence in general but, on top of all, are you saying that they disclose specific rates paid to each specific translator? This is against the law in the US - salaries and other renumerations in private sector are disclosed only in job offers and can be negotiable, but no one can publish or announce sums/rates actually paid or being

This is against the law in the US - salaries and other renumerations in private sector are disclosed only in job offers and can be negotiable, but no one can publish or announce sums/rates actually paid or being paid to the named employees or vendors. Even within company walls this subject is a taboo and people never discuss it or ask inappropriate questions. We all know official president's and congressmen's salaries but this is a different story.
