The Higher Education Ministry is ready to collaborate with the National Translation Institute of Malaysia (ITNM) to intensify efforts to translate academic materials from various languages to Malay, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Its deputy minister Datuk Dr Hou Kok Chong said currently translation of academic material for public institutes of higher learning (IPTA) were not done by ITNM since in house translation experts were given the task.

The Plan To Uphold Malay Language as a language of knowledge at higher learning institutions would require the establishment of a Translation Unit under the Publications Centre at all IPTAs to enhance translation of such material, especially in science and technology, he said when replying to Datuk Dr Mohamad Shahrum Osman (BN-Lipis)
