Arunachal Pradesh may be a goldmine for anthropologists, but a number of dialects and languages spread over its 83,743-sq-km area are on the verge of extinction. The state government has been trying to save them and last week saw the release of a series of textbooks in Bhoti, an ancient language spoken by a little over one lakh people in West Kameng and Tawang. Written for students from Class I to VII, it is a joint effort of the department of Karmik and Adhyatmik affairs in collaboration with the Central Institute of Himalayan Culture Studies.
