Hi everybody,

I'm bringing my English boyfriend with me (speaks very little Polish). And I was wondering whether there are any activities planned for partners. I noticed, that quite a number of us bring their other halves. Is anything mentioned in the conference programme? Have I missed something? Or should we just hope they organise themselves to go sightseeing etc. in Kraków?

Regards,
Agnieszka

Conference dinner and activities for "halves" Sep 2, 2005

It would be wonderful to have some activities for our "halves". What about the conference dinner? Can they join us? Is it possible to add this additional payment?

Yes, "other halves" will certainly be welcome to dinner!
It will be necessary to pay additionally for a meal, but we will collect it in Krakow, in the morning during participants registration.

Imagine... Sep 2, 2005

Imagine a bunch of kids joyfully playing 'hide and seek' under the tables during the dinner...
Sorry, folks, couldn't help it

Sightseeing in Cracow Sep 15, 2005

For all semi-participants, which means our famili members, a sightseeing tour with professional city guide can be organised.
The cost shall be about 400 PLN (approx. 105 Euro) for the guide, disrespective the number of the particpants.
Yet it is to early to make fixed appointments, so I just wanted to signalise the possibility of such tour.

We shall return to this somwhere in Mid October.

Kind regards
Jerzy

I'd suggest a trip to Wieliczka Salt Mine Oct 2, 2005

It's something well worth seeing.

There are special trains levaing from Kraków. And it's only several kilometers.

Social event, Thursday evening Oct 9, 2005

Is anyone planning a social gathering on Thursday evening, for example dinner at a restaurant? Last year was pretty chaotic in this respect and it seemed that everyone was waiting for someone else to organise something. It would be good if someone with local knowledge could arrange something in advance, such as reserve tables at a restaurant.

I just informed an agency in Canada (the owner is originally from Poland) that I was going to Krakow. Here's what she replied:

"Oh Krakow! Love Krakow. One of my favourite cities in Poland. When I have a moment I will look up a restaurant that I was at last spring and send you a link… fabulous food and very traditional surroundings..."

Sounds good, doesn't it?

If needs be, Frank, we can organize something ourselves on the spot. I'll let you have the link as soon as I get it.

Best regards,

Volkmar

Count me in Oct 13, 2005

I think it's a wonderful idea, so let do it. I'll have to check my flights as I think I arrive late in the afternoon, but if we decide on a meeting point and hours, it would be great

It's true, I've checked I arrive at 20.00 coming from Frankfurt

Please tell me, who needs a guided tour in Cracow Oct 13, 2005

We can organise a guided tour in Cracow for all participants and/or for the partners.
What I need to know is, when and how many people would like to go. The cost for a guide would be something about 100-150 Euros.
The offered languages are English and German, possibly French and Spanish (but I would need to ask for tat).

Please let me know here, who would like to join such group.
Thak you

Regards
Jerzy

I would be interested Jerzy, assuming you get around 10 or more people and that the timing does not clash with one of the sessions I hope to attend.
Thanks for your advice on transport in Krakow (Travel thread).

I have to Kraków a few times, but last time was in 1998 - and judging by the restaurants listing, the city is now much livelier than before. I checked out the websites of a few places on the list, and so far this is my favourite:

http://www.grill15-16.pl/

We could organize something on the spot - yes, if we were not more than 10 people looking for a restaurant. I would think, however, that most participants would arrive to Kraków by Thursday night. It would be a good idea to reserve tables for a large number of people (40? 50?), and announce this as a semi-official program.

I am afraid not too many participants read the conference-related forums, including this one.

I will attend the conference with my half, I am sure she'd enjoy a guided tour with a proffessional guide. She'd appreciate some explaining in Spanish, as also was suggested by the moderator. Thanks. Eugenio Llorente Barrueco.

Dinner Thursday evening Oct 25, 2005

Thanks Volkmar,
I've just checked this page and wasn't aware until now that you had replied/commented.

I'm scheduled to arrive in Krakow at around 12.30 on Thursday, so I look forward to meeting up with you and perhaps doing some sight-seeing before dinner at the restaurant in the evening.

I hope others will join us, both conference delegates and their partners.

Best regards
Frank
