But about half of the total volume came from one client.

Some of which are one-off (normally small) jobs and some turn into more long-term relationships. The bulk of my work still comes from my more established clients, though.

I skipped "new" in the poll question. I worked for 13 clients this year, but only 2.5 were new (0.5 stands for one I worked for from November 2010 to September this year... case closed now)

Probably about 2. Does a one-off pro-bono client count? To tell the truth, I am probably the world's worst administrator, since I don't even know how many clients I have altogether off the top of my head; it's not many though, and I don't constantly get work from them all. In fact, although I dislike having to look at my admin info to answer posts, I'll just pop off now and have a look. (A few mins later)... In fact, although I dislike having to look at my admin info to answer posts, I'll just pop off now and have a look. (A few mins later)... I just looked at my tax return for the final quarter 2010 and I billed 11 clients, so in a total of about 30 occasional punters I maybe have about 15 "regular" clients (although the regularity may be only one shortish text once a year) and only 3 or 4 of them are agencies. I also seem to have about a dozen TMs, some client specific, others by area. The thing is, I find questions about these kind or details a slog, as they mean I have to spend time checking my records to find out. Normally I don't worry about these kind of details - the main thing for me is to service them all, keep them happy, bill them all on time and get paid likewise. The rest is just donkeywork to me - I'm more likely to be agonising over an adjective I used a week previously than how many clients I currently have or whether my earnings are up or down on the previous month/quarter/year etc... ▲ Collapse

I haven't the faintest idea how many are new and how many are long-standing!

3 with only a single job and they appear usually to deal with languages other than my working pairs, so I dont expect they will become regular clients. 6 others have been repeat clients but it's too early to tell if they will be come regular clients.

though I must say that most of them seem one-offs, contrary to my "historical" clients for whom I have been doing work for the last 25 years...

I have just looked through my invoice list and counted about sixteen or seventeen new names. However, it depends how you define new clients, because after a really big agency client went bankrupt last year, I have been contacted by several of the former PMs, who have moved to new jobs or started small agencies of their own. Some of the end clients have obviously moved away from an agency that took over the bankrupt agency's portfolio. (I don't work for that agency for v... Some of the end clients have obviously moved away from an agency that took over the bankrupt agency's portfolio. (I don't work for that agency for various reasons.) But jobs from familiar end clients are turning up through other agencies I already know. I have signed up with several new agencies too - but have not actually received jobs from all of them. (But I have not counted them if I have not sent an invoice.) ▲ Collapse

no new customers, don't have time for new ones I did however get a lot of work from a customer that hadn't sent me any in ages.
Most of them for a single job. I have one client now that pays so well and gives me so much work that it crowds out the others. Otherwise my client base would be much larger. I find that I'm turning down jobs almost every day. Today I turned down three.
