Local usage Mar 6, 2006

The local translator is more familiar with the target language usage in the area. Case in point is the large hispanic population within the USA that has adopted the language to fit their "spanglish" language needs. A local translator is not only aware of these "adaptations" but is exposed to them on a daily basis.

Saturdays...
Fridays and Thursdays are difficult.
Lunch, afternoon or dinner is best.
A weekend in May?
(not May 5,6,7 - b/c that is the NETA conference).
Maybe Saturday, May 13, or 20?

I would like to see a dinner thing - but not on Friday night. Or a Sunday brunch might be a lot of fun. The last weekend of May is also out as I have another commitment. But I am definitely looking forward to getting together with my Conn. Interpreter colleagues!!!

Unfortunately my house is not large enough to accomodate two overnight guests and I am actually around 45 minutes north of Westport - otherwise I'd be happy to.

Or The inn at National Hall (a restored Hotel from the twenties, which was later converted into a furniture store, and after years of being closed was again turned into a hotel - on the river in Downtown Westport)
, or possibly the Westport Inn. Not as centrally located, but another option.
I hope this has been of help.

Thank you, Rod & Karl! Apr 24, 2006

Had a fantastic time at yesterday's pow-wow, despite the near-monsoon weather conditions! Met so many interesting people, and made lots of new contacts, too! Always a pleasure to get together with fellow translators/interpreters!

Awesome Powwow! Apr 25, 2006

I too had a fabulous time yesterday. Ditto, ditto!
I look forward to making personal contact with some of my new friends soon. Let's try to meet on a regular basis as local interpreters/translators as was mentioned yesterday. The networking possibilities are endless!
