I'm sorry if I'm bringing this up again, but we just had someone asking 11 questions in a row, and when I told him/her that "we refrain from asking too many questions" (who am I kidding, right?) this person said that he/she is sorry but the text is in an area that he/she is not very familiar with. And what baffles me is how quickly the suggestions keep pouring in. Last week we had someone asking 27 questions.

I guess that leaves me to conclude that people like me are in the minority here. Are we that point-driven obsessed?

I think ProZ/Kudoz has to take a stand on this and come out and say it whether is OK to ask that many questions or if a cap on the number of questions (exact number and specifics; no ambiguous statement) is needed.

There will be a limit later this year, I think May 27, 2005

Hi Sormane,
I believe I read somewhere that there are going to be some limits later this year as to how many questions a person can ask, and those limits will be different for unregistered askers, registered users and platinum members, but I also believe the limit for platinum members will most likely be something like 10-15 questions a day.

Having said that, personally I don't really care how many questions a person asks, I will only answer the questions I want to answer and I will go on with my life. And I don't think it is my place as a member of the site to worry about who answers what question and what their motives might be.
I like to assume good faith.

Daily limits: 1 (non member), 5 (non-platinum member), 15 (platinum member) May 27, 2005

It has been stated previously here that the decision has been made among moderators to institute a KudoZ question limit beginning in September. Here is how it will work: There will be a daily limit to the amount of KudoZ questions asked, counted in a “sliding window” of the last 24 hours. The limit will depend on the type of asker: platinum, non-platinum, and non-member. Some consideration may be added later for the number of question an asker has answered previously, but this has not been agreed upon by the moderators.

Initially, the limits we will try will be:

Non-member limit: one question

Non-platinum member: five questions with normal exposure + one more question with limited exposure*

Platinum member: fifteen questions with normal exposure + three more questions with limited exposure*

Limited exposure has not been defined, but it may consist of the question not being mailed, or of some similar limitation.

The idea of moderators giving permission for platinum members to surpass the limit in special cases has also been discussed.

The above has been discussed at length on the moderator list, and the decision has been made to start with this approach, so let's not discuss changes to this yet here. If deficiencies to the approach become apparent after we institute the limits, we will make changes at that time.

I believe that this approach will further improve the KudoZ environment.

Sooner rather than later..... May 27, 2005

The fact that something constructive is going to be done is good news.

Whilst some advocate the "if you don't want to answer it, don't approach", the PT»EN site has become a circus lately - the standard has truly plummeted over the last year.

I previously did myself but what a mistake. To those that advocate the cited approach, it's that very apathetic behaviour that allows things to reach this point. That and the other extreme "obsessive compulsive KudoZitis disorder

That and the other extreme "obsessive compulsive KudoZitis disorder" some seem to suffer from, egging these site abusers on by helping them time and time again.

The sooner these rules are implemented, the better.....

Though I think our moderators are too generous: 1-3-5 would be more than enough.

Agree with the daily rate proposed by Henry May 27, 2005

I think this is a fair number as it's important to remember that while some post questions as they go others might wait until the job is finished before posting. 15 questions for Platinum members would therefore cover both eventualities.

number of questions - to answer or not to answer? May 27, 2005

As a person who helps out from time to time, I am not offended by the number of questions. I think that questions are also part of the knowledge.

If I think that someone is out of their depth and is taking advantage of our goodwill or does not use the glossary, I just won't answer, or I may post a note to the asker to guide them in how to use everybody's time more productively.

Of course, I am surprised that someone who clearly is outside their depth would not simpl

Of course, I am surprised that someone who clearly is outside their depth would not simply call on an expert to collaborate on the project.....I think that we are all adults here and therefore nobody would look down on anybody who desires to share a project....:-)

If KudoZ's site management sees fit to limit the number of questions, I would hope that you would still track the questions for a knowledge perspective and perhaps post them in a delayd fashion....

my 2 cents

Boy, I sure hope so, because from where I sit, it seems like an unfortunate development.

Different sides of the fence May 27, 2005

Looks like the askers and the answerers might line up on the different sides of the fence. In this regard, one thing shouldn't go unnoticed.

Let me just say, before going into my argument: Dear askers, thank you for asking good, interesting questions! They provide us with plenty of opportunities to research, translate and compete with each other in the wonderful game of Kudoz.

Of course, you may be afraid that this rule limits the ways you can enjoy the Kudoz process. B

Of course, you may be afraid that this rule limits the ways you can enjoy the Kudoz process. But I am sure that those who predominantly ask questions will benefit from the change just as much as those who predominantly answer them. By restricting the flow of questions from potential askers-abusers of the system, every legitimate and considerate asker will get more attention and more exposure (and hence higher quality answers) to each of his/her questions!

I don't have enough time to elaborate much further on this right now, but hopefully the idea will get support from other members.

Kudoz to you all,
Mike

Yikes from me too!

This is a gut reaction.

Just to be absolutely clear, I have asked 31 questions and answered quite a few (29 pages).
