From a book on otolaryngology (though this, of course, should be read up in histology textbooks):

Lamina Propria

The lamina propria, located beneath the epithelium, is a loosely structured tissue populated by various groups of cells. One of the key functions of this tissue is the secretion of IgA antibody from the many IgA plasma cells. IgA is transported from the lamina propria to the epithelium and is then secreted into the lumen. The lamina propria also contains many CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes in a ratio of about 2:1. In contrast to intraepithelial lymphocytes, most lamina propria T cells express the TCR-бв. Other effector cells of the lamina propria include IgG B cells, macrophages, dendritic cells, eosinophils, mast cells, and neutrophils.
