was of narrowing the yard track margins

I don't have time to research this, but will go out on a limb with an idea for the asker to look into:

...ways of narrowing the yard track margins were found, after which...

It could be spelled out more:

...ways were found to narrow the rail track margins in the yard, after which...

But, in the context, "rail" is likely redundant. And it would have to do with "yard track" because the place this was done is in the сортировочная станция, aka "the yard" (in the shortest translation of that term).

The thing to research would be if "поле" is used for the "margin" - the amount of space along the track on the outside of the rails. At first I wanted this "field" or "area" to simply be the normal "right-of-way", but that's полоса in Russian.

Anyway, three things for sure:
* I would say "ways", for brevity, rather than the usual "opportunities" for "возможности".
* whatever these are - margins, fields or areas - they are longing to have a definite article in front of them.
* If you do searches for "track field", be careful, because you're likely to find examples in which "field" doesn't go with "track", but with the next word - "testing". That's because the combo "field testing" is so common, including "field testing" of track, which may be written "field track testing".

CORRECTION OF TYPO!

Sorry, "ways" not "was" in the suggested phrase.

CORRECTION OF ANOTHER TYPO (Sorry!)

In the last sentence: ... which may be written "track field testing".
