scrapie (which is a kind of transmissible spongiform encephalopathy)

Hi Tweety,

Scrapie is NOT transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE), which is a class of diseases caused by prions (as opposed to viruses or bacteria). Scrapie (screpie) is the type of TSE that infects sheep.

Even in Romanian, it is apparently more commonly written as scrapie, and this hit makes the distinction between TSE of cows and scrapie (of sheep) nicely.

Also note the correct (and 100 times more common spelling in google) of transmi*ssi*ble spongiform encephalopathy, not \"transmittable\".
Peer comment(s):

agree Tudor Soiman : Scrapie is a fatal, degenerative disease affecting the central nervous system of sheep and goats. There is no cure and there is no treatment for scrapie (same term in Spanish)
