Italian term

SOS

Italian to English Other Law (general) acronym
Hi all -

I am translating a legal memorandum where this abbreviation - SOS - is used in then following context:

io sottoscritto Signora XXX, nato a ROMA il 01/01/1950, residente in STATI UNITI D'AMERICA,
Cod. Fisc.

I believe that it is connected to either social security or health care for pensioners.

Can someone tell me what the acronym SOS stands for?

Thanks!

P.S. - Based on what you suggest, the specified field for this query will probably need to change. I currently have it under "Medical: Health Care" which may not be right.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!! Marco - I think your approach is best.

Fiona's right and Marco's suggestion on how to render it as well.
Marco Solinas Jun 20, 2017:
Fiona is right It is a pension to the surviving beneficiaries. It seems to be a very specific pension (see http://pensionatidiritti.blogspot.ca/2012/08/le-categorie-de... ). Therefore, I would leave "SOS", with a translator's note explaining what it is.

Hi Joe Legal or perhaps insurance???
I'll move it to legal as per your suggestion. You probably have more functioning brain cells than I do at the moment (I just had yet another surgery and am not feeling 100%).
Michael Meskers (asker) Jun 20, 2017:
Thanks Fiona! It could be that Signora XXX is indeed the surviving spouse of someone (no reference in this one page memo)...

So this might be some sort of life insurance or annuity payment.

I'm in the dark because the company names and logos have been redacted...

HEY Nice to see your face again (Sig. Opera, I mean).

Why don't you post this under Legal? You might get some people who actually understand this stuff :)

Superstiti http://www.pensionioggi.it/dizionario/i-codici-delle-pension...

Not sure what they mean by "superstiti", if it means the surviving spouse of a couple where the other is deceased. Also look here:
