English term

hundreds of feet

English to French Science Science (general)
The tents that comprise most of the buildings are stored each winter in an underground tunnels system which has been dug out of the snow pack that is "hundreds of feet thick".

Peer comment(s):

agree Simon Mac : Yes as hundreds is in the plural

agree Claire Chapman : This sounds more impressive to me, which is the idea that I think that they were aiming at. :-)

neutral Tony M : I think that the hype suggests that they would have said 'hundreds' even if it had only been 201', so I think this runs the risk of over-translation.

d'au moins une centaine de mètres

Small deviation from the previous answer - what if "hundreds" indicates 500 ?
I therefore think that 'at least' is deserved.
Sorry if i'm being pedantic :o)
