Discussion

SirReaL Apr 11, 2005:
Just take off the second pair of apostrophes (apostrophi?):
'Yes' is more of a yes than a no.
danya Apr 11, 2005:
i think that A.K. is right in surmising it is not a case of metaphoric use here, but rather a confusedly-worded line from a questionnaire
Angeliki Kotsidou (X) Apr 11, 2005:
has to give a definition (the framework) of these 4 answers. So even if ("yes" is more of a "yes" than a "no" et cetera) makes sence in English, I suspect that it wouldn't be used in a research paper.
Angeliki Kotsidou (X) Apr 11, 2005:
I'm sure we are talking about a research here that was carried out through questionnaires. These questionnaires usually contain 3 or four answers. (Yes, no, don't know, don't want to reply) Afterwards, during the analysis of methodology, the researcher

agree Jack Doughty : or rather "Yes, it's more of a yes than a no". I see. Then the whole sentence is just stating the blatantly obvious and is a total waste of time.

Thank you Jack. However, the first 'Yes' is the subject of the sentence here. ++ Well, I think Angeliki's guess is right, but I also think that my translation conveys the intended idea.

Thank you Andrey!
agree Dylan Edwards : "Yes" is... or "Yes" means... I can only guess that this is a questionnaire where you have to commit yourself to a YES or a NO. Even if you're only slightly positive, you have to say YES. My conjecture...

below

"Yes" is better "yes" than "no".
"Yes" is largely an affirmative answer, not a negative one.
