Dutch term

in de basis

Dutch to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering
A product sheet describing a particular gas absorption heat pump.

Deze zijn geschikt voor:
Alle warmwatersystemen voor commercieel, industrieel en huishoudelijk gebruik
Toepasbaar voor hoog- en laagtemperatuur watersystemen
In de basis bij grotere vermogens.

It appears so simple, but I'm struggling with what is meant by 'in de basis' here. Does it mean something along the lines of 'suitable for', or something else?

Many thanks.

F Scott Ophof (X) Feb 5, 2013:
Lower/first stage(s)? It seems to mean the first stage of a multi-stage installation, since they're referring to more powerful installations (bij grotere vermogens). In that case terms such as 'first stage' or 'lower stages' come to mind.

This is a workaround. "basis" usually refers to the basis, foundation, or base structure => infrastructure. That should cover "all sins". ;-)

Englsih

The phrase "in de basis" is often used in Dutch as a simple expression to mean "in essence", "fundamentally" or even: "basically".
