agree Anil Kelkar : It should perhaps be mentioned here that the double 'l' is actually long. It is not pronounced like you might pronounce the name "Billy" or 'silly'; when written in the Devanagri (Hindi) script, you actually write one and a half 'l's.

agree Anil Goyal : One interesting fact. In normal uses Cat in English is Masculine while that in Hindi is feminine. And so is "fish and Machhli.

agree Anil Kelkar : Continuing my note above, which I could not complete for lack of space: when pronouncing the word, you also pronounce 'l' one and a half times, so to speak, i.e. lengthen the 'l' somewhat.
