disagree Olga V : But "withdraw" doesn't mean "забирать на себя". In this particular context, it means "to rid a patient of illness", i.e. "izbavit' pazienta ot bolezni", a ne vzyat' ee na sebya. Consult any dictionary...

pick out (over) ...by switching on themseves

...pick out (or over) beloved master's diseases by switching on themselves...
Target audience here is CHILDREN, not scientists. Contemporary children, spoiled by TV and computer gaims... only vivid images can compete.
