Non-ProZ.com May 31, 2005:
Thank you for that word, anyway
Drunya May 31, 2005:
I guess what matters is not whether I think it applies (I still hope it does), but that some English-speakers raise their eyebrows at this variant. If two natives agreed with Andrey's suggestion, it must be a reason enough to go on with it.
olganet May 30, 2005:
anecdotal - based on or consisting of reports or observations of usually unscientific observers <anecdotal evidence> - Mirriam Webster. means , - ISOLATED,SPORADIC
Non-ProZ.com May 30, 2005:
Drunya do you think the word "anecdotal" applies here?

there have only been isolated results published in the litterature

Отдельный = единичный

Others have already developed a comprehensive theory to describe large deviations of traffic flows, under the large buffer limiting regime, in which the buffer size of a router increases. Under the many flows limiting regime, however, ***there have only been isolated results***: so I first develop a full theory for this regime. Formally speaking, I establish a Large Deviations Principle for random processes under the many flows regime.

There have been just anecdotal reports...

... on calculating the coefficient ()

Or, to rephrase, there have only been anecdotal reports...
Peer comment(s):

disagree Dorene Cornwell : anecdotal? Where does anecdotal come from here?

Occasional, episodic - come, isn't it synonymous?

agree sergey (X) : When used in a medical context, it does not mean a funny story. It means a single case report not yet substantiated by studies using large numbers of people.

True enough, but should the context necessarily be medical? I wasn't aware I'm that spoilt with medicine :-(

Peer comment(s):

agree Dorene Cornwell : In the scientific literature, there have been only a few publications about.... This word order will be cleaner if the description of the coefficients gets long.

Thanks!
agree James Vail : I sometimes use 'isolated' for this word, in the sense of not being part of a large group - in other words 'a few.'
