Summary of an academic paper from Swiss German into English regarding the oriented intergrowth of diaspore and corundum crystals.
This structure appears a few times within the text as follows:
In dem Dolomitmarmor vorkommende Korundkristalle sind manchmal von den nach [001]gestreckten Diasporkristallen orientiert umwachsen.
It's the word 'nach' I'm having issues with and so far have translated the sentence as:
Corundum crystals occurring in dolimitic marble are sometimes intergrown orientedly by the elongated diasporic crystals **nach** [001].
Unless I'm completely off-track, I believe the [001] is the crystal cleavage. I'm really not sure what to use here, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Discussion
I did originally have 'towards' and I am now wondering if it is 'in the direction of' as the following structure also appears quite a lot: ...und die Richtung [0001] des Korundes ist mit der Richtung [100] des Diaspors gemeinsam. Would you agree with my thinking?

In figure 5: typical morphology of corundum crystals from the Prilep marble - [0001] = pinacoid. Maybe the number is referring to some section of a specific diagram, as Steffen has said, or to a wellknown example.
